An early 20th century halftone photomechanical print after an original painting titled Mary Ball Washington at the Age of About Four-score by Robert Edge Pine. This half-length portrait depicts Washington (1707-1789) slightly turned to one side, dressed with a blue ribbon ornamented mob cap. Below, in typeface, it reads ‘Mary Bell Washington, The Mother of George Washington, Reproduced from The Original Painting from Life owned by W. Lanier Washington, Esq’. Handwritten in brown ink in the bottom right corner, it reads ‘Charles Henry Hart Esq, with compliments of W. Lanier Washington’. William Lanier Washington (1865-1933) was a descendent of the Washington family. This work is presented under glass in a gold tone embellished wooden frame, wired for hanging.

Condition

-some toning to the print; some wear to the frame including scratches and nicks, with molding loss at each corner.
