Juanita Taylor’s love of antiques and passions for collecting started while she was living in Montevideo, Uruguay in the late 1960’s. Every Sunday she would venture out into the streets of the European-influenced city and find the flea markets with the most interesting treasures, many of which came with her when she moved to Colorado. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Juanita chose to live the life she loved and opened an antique store, which eventually led to her shop, Queen Bee, at the Denver Antique Mart. She had an eye for special things; her book collection was extensive, and she eventually took up the art of doll making (many of her dolls brought home blue ribbons from the Adams County Fair). She continued to collect beautiful pieces during her time in Colorado. The old popcorn popper, for example, belonged to her father, Mike Joseph who operated the Liberty Theater in San Luis, Colorado in the 1950’s.
