Early 19th C. Rosewood Salesman Sample Piano by John Broadwood & Sons, London

Item Details

A wonderful salesman sample piano by John Broadwood & Sons, London. This antique sample of a rosewood-cased upright ‘Cottage’ piano features carved fretwork panels above and below the keyboard. The piano has tuning pins inside, two pedals below and rests on carved supports. Keys are not present, and the piano doesn’t function. Based on the ‘John Broadwood & Sons’ signature, this piano sample dates to after 1808, but no serial number is present. The piano comes with an antique wooden case for storage and traveling and is probably not original. Its painted with paneled front doors and handles on each side. Lock and key are present. John Broadwood is considered one of the oldest piano makers, starting in 1792, and the current website boasts ‘Appointed pianoforte manufacturer for King George II’ until present.
