After Velázquez "The Feast of Bacchus" Oil Painting on Canvas

An early 20th century reproduction oil painting on canvas of The Feast of Bacchus or The Triumph of Borrachos by Diego Velázquez (b. 1599 d. 1660). The image depicts Bacchus, the Greek god of wine and revelry, with several male figures in contemporary Spanish dress. The male figures expressions and red cheeks indicate inebriation; a kneeling figure before Bacchus is crowned with grape leaves. The piece has a strong sense of chiaroscuro with a dark background and light on the figures. There is handwritten text to the verso reading, ‘F.G. de Banella’. It is presented in a gold tone frame with decorative plaster trim and is ready to hang.
Condition
- This item has been relined. Brittle framing tape is visible along the top and sides of the piece. There is a marked dimple at the breast of the rightmost figure. A mild chip in the paint is one inch above the rightmost figure’s head. Marked damage to the canvas in the upper left corner, upper right corner, and top left (above Bacchus) edge of the canvas. The frame is scuffed and missing pieces of the decorative plaster, damage is concentrated to the corners of the frame.
