Longcase Clock with Movement by George Crow

Item Details

A longcase clock, with movement by George Crow (Wilmington, Delaware, active 1740-1770) tall walnut clock, features a brass face with a putti and scrollwork decorating the spandrels and ‘Geo Crow Wilmington’ inscribed to the lower bottom portion. Boasting of both Arabic and Roman numerals along the chapter ring, as well as a calendar day, and with original key. The waist section, a later marriage to the works, is hand carved in a Rococo revival manner and is attributed to a Philadelphia cabinetmaker, whose name was not legible on paperwork. Please see the link provided on the historical importance of George Crow and American horology.

  • Please note, this is an item that may be especially difficult to move and/or transport. Unless shipping arrangements are available and made by the winning bidder, that individual is responsible for, and advised to bring, appropriate assistance, vehicle, and any necessary tools to pickup.

Condition

-The clock is in good working condition chimes and such, keeping of time was not tested, and all pieces appear to be intact. There is a minor crack to the cabinet door, but it does not affect the structural integrity. The hairline cracks on the sides are original to the piece. One of two pieces may be from later restoration.
