Dorothy Jackson, 1923-1998, nee Dorothy Maciejewski, originally from Erie, Pa. began her interest in art by painting fashion illustrations while in high school, then later developed a style for still life and landscape while painting with the Brushettes, under the tutelage of Elmer Ruff. While her two daughters continued their educations at the university level in the 1960’s and 1970’s, she continued her own education by traveling to Europe several times to study the artwork of the Masters, at the British Museum in London, the Louvre in Paris, the Rijke’s Museum in Amsterdam, the Vatican Museum in Rome, and many other collections, large and small. She developed an extensive personal library of books about individual artists and the process of creating art, and refined her own appreciation of fine art through study of the Cincinnati Art Museum collections. Her personal style of restoration developed over time, and she was able to use the Best Practices of restoration of the time, through conservation and restoration of fine antiques for Samuel Aronoff Galleries, Cincinnati Art Galleries, Ran Gallery and the Cincinnati Art Museum (frames only for CAM), as well as for private collectors in this area and across the country.
Everything But The House is selling this personal collection of fine art acquired from this time of Dorothy Jackson’s personal growth until the onset of Alzheimer’s in the early 1980’s. The collection has been lovingly cared for and appreciated by her family since her passing. Her husband, John R. Jackson, died in February of 2016.
