Item Details

A reofect textured reproduction of Fourth of July Parade by Alfred Cornelius Howland. This image depicts a patriotic parade of imaginative characters, celebrating the Jacksonian sense of everyday democracy. The original oil painting was done in 1886; this reproduction uses a print as the background, with hand-stroked glaze on top to give it a realistic oil painting look, a process known as reofect.
Howard (1838-1909) was an American painter, lithographer, and engraver known for his landscapes and genre paintings. His work is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and several others across the nation. Fourth of July Parade is housed in the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA.
