A rare ‘Plato’ clock in a carriage style brass case with beveled glass sides, circa 1903, impressed to the bottom ‘The Plato Clock’ with patented dates. The ‘Plato’ clock was invented by Eugene Fitch (b. 1846) and patented in 1903. The unusual clock has white celluloid plates that flip to display time numerically. The clocks were featured in an exhibit at the World’s Fair in St. Louis in 1904 then produced from 1904-1906 by both Ansonia in the US and Junghans in Europe. The little clock winds and adjusts by apparatus on the bottom.

Condition

The clock was tested to be working, the brass has tarnished.
