Antique Seth Thomas School House Clock

Item Details

A wonderful antique Seth Thomas School House Clock from the late 1800s to early 1900s (Circa 1885-1910). It has a rosewood case with 8-day movement and hourly strike. The clock has an octagon shaped cabinet to the top and a rectangle with diagonal corners housing the pendulum. The hardware is brass with the exception of the metal around the faceplate glass which is tin. The face is painted metal with Roman numerals that are meant to be seen in a reflection since they are backwards. The face has ‘Seth Thomas’ between the two winding holes and ‘Made in the U.S.A.’ below the Roman numeral VI. The pendulum box houses the key and has a knob twist to open the door. The glass is painted black to the outside, gold oval, ring of black, then clear glass to view the pendulum. The back of the clock is a long rectangle with no access.

Condition

The clock is in good condition for the age and use of the clock. There is a small chip to the upper right corner of the pendulum door, an approximately 2.5" scratch to the face paint, wear to the finish, and a large chip missing to the back wood. The left winding hole wound nicely; however, the right hole would not wind. The clock did not operate when cataloged.
