Antique Sacristy Cabinet
Item Details
A large antique sacristy cabinet is made from mixed hard woods, primarily walnut. This awesome cabinet was formerly housed in the sacristy of a church to hold communion implements, communion wafers and wine, altar cloths, church linens, and other items relating to a church service. Typically these cabinets had a wood press (closet) to one or both sides in which the minister garments for the service were hung. Thus, the sides were usually unfinished as is true with this cabinet. This cabinet features a hutch to the top with a beautiful carved top rail, three doors, four drawers, and curved corner cornices to the open shelf. The doors have cathedral molding decor, brass knob handles and keyholes, and a stationary shelf and bottom shelf behind the doors. The drawers have brass drawer label holders and pegged joints. The base of the cabinet has a top that becomes a shelf, three smaller drawers below the top, six full length drawers, and a rectangular ‘foot.’ All of the drawers have brass bin pulls and peg joints. The three top drawers have solid wood bottoms. The bottom six drawers have slatted bottom which aired the linens. All of the hardware appears to be original, and the hutch is easily removed to facilitate move out. This wonderful cabinet has many uses and would work in various areas of your home.
Condition
The cabinet is sturdy and in wonderful condition for its age and use. The finish has water spots and wear in places.
