Martyl Suzanne Schweig Langsdorf was an American artist born in St. Louis to artist parents, her mother a painter and her father a photographer. Langsdorf started her art practice joining her mother in painting classes as a child. Though her work typically consisted of abstract landscapes and murals, Langsdorf is famously known for her design of the Doomsday Clock on the 1947 “Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists ” cover. An image to evoke the urgency and threat of nuclear weapons.
