19th Century Turkish Strong Box

Item Details

An amazing 19th century Turkish strong box, crudely comprised of six solid hardwood boards. The chest is embellished with elaborate ornate iron work to top, sides and back, and features a sturdy iron decorative bail handle on each side. Lift-top is held by long, hand-forged iron hinges and secured by hand-forged nails. Top inside edge is adorned with iron work with stamped detailing. Interior reveals a large open well with side slots that once held a small till. Chest rests on four wooden rectangular feet.

Condition

-some iron work is buckling, cracks to top. Bur still sturdy well made piece.
