East End, Ohio Fine Art & Antiques Sale

Sunday, January 26th 2014 @ 9:00pm

EBTH is honored to present this rich and diverse collection of fine antiques and artwork, the majority of the items in the sale being from the collection of the Vogel, Thoman and Hangen families. In the early 19th century, during the Directoire period, the Vogel family, wealthy textile merchants from Switzerland, lent Napoleon Bonaparte sufficient money for him to seize power in 1799 with a coup d’etat. In exchange for the loan, Napoleon granted the Vogels exclusive rights to the exportation of French textiles to the Ottoman Empire. The family relocated to Turkey, monopolizing the Turkish-French textile market until the 1930’s. During those years, the family became fabulously rich.

This wonderful collection represents their time spent in Turkey, France, Switzerland and the United States. We are pleased to present a fine selection of investment quality period furnishings, fine silver, Asian porcelains, rare books and original artwork from that collection. It descended to the widower of the last of the Vogels some years ago and is for sale for the first time with EBTH.

Other rare and fine selections in the sale include a 17th century carved Chinese rhinoceros horn libation cup, original oil on canvas paintings by well listed Cincinnati, Ohio Impressionist painter Thomas Corwin Lindsay, a 3.33 carat “Hearts and Arrow” round brilliant cut diamond and much, much more. Please plan to enjoy the preview for these items on Saturday, January 25th from 10am-3pm EST.
