Dr. Paul G. Mitchell is many things chief, among them a decorated Army Veteran, a distinguished physician and a dedicated patron of the arts, whose collecting practices were shaped by deep personal relationships with leading figures in the African American art world. A contemporary of Dr. Charles H. Wright, the founder of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, he worked alongside Dr. Wright at Hutzel Hospital and on the faculty of Wayne State University. Dr. Mitchell’s
engagement with the arts was not incidental but integral to his intellectual and social circles. In 1979 Dr Mitchell and Dr Alicia Matthews purchased the Edward and Adeline Fisher home, a 28 room Italianate mansion built in 1923 with gilded ceilings and marble fountains. EBTH is honored to offer the furnishings from this home.
