Whimsical, colorful, magical, playful and wonderful; all adjectives that would be appropriate to describe the collection of Betsy Alexander and her husband Burnell Yow! As a young child it was more than apparent that Betsy was interested in art and music. By the time she was 10, she realized that it was necessary to choose one path or the other and she decided to devote herself to composing. Years later she would pivot, returning to art as a way to recharge from composing, teaching and performing.
Betsy’s husband Burnell Yow! is a multi-disciplinary artist working with painting, collage, sculpture, assemblage, digital art and photography. Both artists are avid collectors of glass and odd objects, they enjoy scouring local flea markets gathering treasures for their collection. Burnell and Betsy are members of the Dumpster Divers of Philadelphia, a group of artists whose aesthetic vision is to interrupt the stream of waste by using discarded items to create art.
Perhaps most importantly though, both Betsy and Burnell are personal assistants to Nora, the world famous piano playing cat.
