The Western Female Seminary was founded in 1853 in Oxford, Ohio. Western became a four-year liberal arts college for women until 1972 when men were admitted. Western College closed in 1974 and Patterson Place – the former home of Western’s presidents – became the headquarters for the Western College Alumnae Association, Inc. Over the past 49 years, the association has acquired items which have been added to the Western collection. The organization will be dissolved in June, 2024. Many of the items in the collection were transferred to the Western College Memorial Archives, historical societies, libraries, and museums. The remaining pieces are available for purchase through EBTH in this historic auction.
