Here at EBTH our mission is to sell uncommon items that are rare, historical, weird and wonderful but seldom do we come across a cache of treasures that all befit this mantra … until now. We are more than pleased to offer this sale (the first of several) offering artifacts, fossils, historical pieces and yes, a few oddities as well. The avid collector, an electrical engineer by trade, had a passion for acquiring anything of interest that required researching the history of the piece. He was a renaissance man and a passionate historian who kept meticulous notes. Perhaps his greatest joy was passing on a legacy of learning and the joy of discovery. His grandchildren delight in the memory of wearing white gloves to help clean a fossil or artifact while learning about different cultures. The collection caught the interest of the host of the PBS program Legacy List with Matt Paxton who featured the family in an episode titled “Don’t Go in the Basement”. The daunting job of tackling such a large array of important discoveries is evident during the program.
While enjoying this sale you’ll find notable items to include a cuneiform Sumarian fragment, a fossilized turtle shell, ancient Greek and Phoenician colored glass vessels, signed ephemera galore, hair samples from historic figures, colonial era artifacts, ancient Persian bronze pendants, an impressive sabertooth salmon fossil, Pre-Columbian pottery and so much more to appreciate. Thank goodness these items were first discovered by a gentleman with a passion to preserve history.
