Well respected Kentuckian Bill Scheben took up golf as a youngster and has played for now for over 70 years. As a kid, he rode the bus and walked a mile just to be on the course where he caddied through his teen years. He enjoyed golf success while in high school then continued at the University of Cincinnati before transferring to the University of Kentucky. While finishing his collegiate career at UK, he teamed back up with his best friend and high school teammate. After college, the local amateur events continued on weekends with colleagues and friends.
Bill’s love of golf got him hooked on collecting golf memorabilia, specifically hickory shafted clubs, old balls and boxes plus many autographed items (gloves, bags and bibs). His passion resulted in combing flea markets and golf stores searching out hickory sticks and such. This also led to playing in hickory shafted tournaments around the midwest where he enjoyed meeting and talking with other collectors.
For over 25 years, Bill has chaired a golf fundraiser to benefit The Bill and Betsy Adult Day Care Center i Northern Kentucky. As part of the outing, participants must use a hickory shafted driver on the long-drive hole contest. Everyone gets a kick out of this!
