Nestled in a 500 acre nature preserve, Owl’s Hill Estate is a Nashville, Tennessee treasure, named appropriately to honor the original residents of the property. Built by architect Bob Street for Huldah and Walter Sharp, the Mies van der Rohe inspired home was completed in 1961. The home required enormous steel beams in an effort to boast the massive spans of glass and open modular interiors. The cantilevered entrance and elegant serpentine center staircase immediately impress the visitor giving a hint to the timeless luxurious features throughout the home.
Saundra and Alex Steel became stewards of the property in 1993, immediately realizing the importance of their role. They found the interior of the home to be the perfect gallery for the contemporary art collection they had procured then added important elements to the landscape to include a reflecting pool and further gardens.
After becoming empty nesters, they turned to renowned designers Bobby McAlpine and Ray Booth (McAlpine, Booth & Ferrier) to refresh the homes cool, linear interior. One year later, mission accomplished. The result being a home that successfully achieved the perfect juxtaposition incorporating a start modular exterior with a warm, tactile interior all while honoring the bucolic setting.
EBTH is proud to have partnered with the Steel family, presenting pieces from the time they enjoyed this magical home.
