After nearly 60 years of collecting antiques–from advertising to English furniture and well-preserved slices of Americana–Bill Willey of the Willey Farm in Paris, KY is offering his collection to the market as he plans his move to be nearer to his children and grandchildren. One might say that collecting antiques came naturally to Bill, he grew up in the antiques and auction business along with his father who conducted estate auctions from their dairy barn in Essex Junction, Vermont since the 1960s when Bill was just a boy. He later took the reins of the family business and his passion for anything old, unique or worthy of conversation with a historical twist continued to develop.
As his father had been in not only the dairy business, but also horse trading, horse racing, and combined driving, Bill also followed in these footsteps. His collection began to include collecting related equine and racing memorabilia. Bill moved his Holsteiner breeding business from South Hero, VT to Paris, KY in 2006, where he expanded it greatly (of note, his combined driving team traveled from Paris, KY to Rome, Italy in late 2006 for the European Championships). At the end of the day, Bill’s collection resulted in the creation of several fine and special homes, where one would enter into a world of character, stories, history and warmth. Not homes–but museums, of sorts.
Please enjoy perusing the sale and taking note of several highlights including an 1870s Brownell horse-drawn hearse, a Seeburg jukebox and a vintage Coke machine to name only a few. This special sale reflects over a half century of passion for collecting fine and unique items–and most especially, a history of all things equine. Enjoy!
