Harold Swartz (aka ‘Whitey due to the color of his hair) was a constant visitor to the neighborhood Pleasantville Fire Department from the age of 11 years old. His career as a firefighter thus seemingly pre-ordained.
Throughout his 56 years in Firefighting, serving first with the city of Pleasantville and finally as the Atlanta Council Fire Marshall, Whitey’s collection of vintage and antique firefighting memorabilia began to pack the small garage next to the Pleasantville station. As the collection grew, so did the garage which was expanded twice during the 1970’s. Eventually the museum of trucks, artifacts and memorabilia was displayed in a larger venue built to resemble a firehouse next to the Swartz’s home.
EBTH is honored to present from this well loved collection; several fire engines (the earliest from 1929), brass fire nozzles, wooden ladders, brass deluge cannons and yes ….. even several brass cages with fireman’s poles.
