A generous collection of Moser art glass and Meissen porcelain offered from the University of the Ozarks, donated to the institution by the Pfeffer family in the 1980s. Mrs. Pfeffer was first elected to the Board of Trustees in 1971, received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from the university in 1988, and was then named a lifetime board member in 1989. A portion of the proceeds from this sale, the first of two, will fund the Eugene and Vera Pfeffer Scholarship endowment.
Moser art glass was founded in the Austrian Empire in 1857 by Ludwig Moser. Their work is coveted among collectors and is known for its rich colors, opulent enameling, and applied animals. Several royal families favored Moser glass, thus the company’s slogan “The Glass of Kings and King Among Glass.”
The Meissen name has long been synonymous with the finest porcelain. Founded in 1712 near Dresden, Germany, each piece is noted for its astonishing quality, fine detailing, and hand-painted decoration.
