The seller, a highly respected interior designer as well, traveled both domestically and across the globe from South America to Africa to Europe and back seeking a collection of one of a kind pieces that weren’t run of the mill.
The designer states, “As I have practiced with my design clients over the past 40 years, I trust my eye and buy what catches my attention. A great provenance or back story is always a plus but I have never been about perfection. I don’t mind seeing age or wear on a piece. To me that means the piece has seen history.”
“There is no particular style you can attribute to the collection other than saying it’s not traditional American. It’s worldly: European, Continental, Asian, and African. It’s a clever collection plucked from around the world, across the centuries which hopefully evokes a love of the past , and appreciation of a time when creativity was expressed with one’s hands not machines.”
Highlights in the sale include; A leather French Art Deco club chairs from Paris, the Italian marble bull (even with broken ear and horn the workmanship is beautiful,) the Paul Bunyan pinball machine, the Cigar Store Indian, the Flemish tapestry of dogs hunting, the French leather painted screen, the ancient 16th century limestone columns, the carved standing lions …. we could go on and on!
