EBTH invites you to browse the personal property auction of collector extraordinaire Madeline Smith.
Madeline Smith treasured all things beautiful including gardening, cooking, exquisite jewelry, the finest linens and Thomas Kinkade artwork but most of all she adored and collected Victorian and antique Christmas decorations of the past. Madeline owned and operated her antique store ‘The Jolly Gardener’, in the 1980’s, so she could meet the people who owned the pieces, truly know the stories behind each piece of furniture, each curve of wood. Madeline’s love of cooking led her to meet Julia Child in person and acquire a signed and personalized cookbook and a great collection of antique and vintage copper cookware. That is why she also sought out the famous painter Thomas Kincade, whose paintings of light had touched her soul.
Again, Madeline wanted to shake hands with the actual palms that had held the paintbrushes and transformed the canvasses she collected. That is why she not only celebrated Christmas and all the traditions and decorating that go with it, but reveled in it. She was well known for her over 3000 ornaments, Santa collection, and dozens of trees, which were often viewed by 200 visitors to her home each year, and even featured in the book Creative Ideas for Christmas (Oxmoor House, Birmingham 1987). Madeline’s treasures seeped with beauty, history, secrets and stories are now available to you. Please step forward into the past world of holiday treasures and exquisite artwork to browse hundreds of fantastic items.
