Everything But The House is delighted to present select items from the estate of the late Stan Thomson (1923-2014), Cincinnati’s own well-loved painter and sculptor. Aside from studying and painting in many mediums, Stan created many commissioned masterpieces in metal around the greater Cincinnati area and beyond. If you have passed through the Dayton International Airport anytime since 1989, you have seen his signature piece, Flight, prominently displayed overhead. It is a large steel globe with airplanes flying out of the center.
Stan had the ability to see something in a pile of scrap metal that would become a wonderful sculpture in his hands – thus his byline, “His sculpture finds unity out of chaos.” Many of his works can still be seen in and around the local area (click for Photos of Stan’s Work ). One popular piece, The Visitors, stands at the Dayton & Montgomery County Public Library in Brookville, Ohio. He often made small models or maquettes to present to companies for his commission work; some are offered in this sale, as well as a large amount of art supplies and raw materials ready for the next artist to create something amazing.
Other items of note are original paintings, including those by Stan himself, a jungle painting by Joel Gautier, a hand-knotted wool rug, a Remington recast bronze sculpture, 14 and 18 karat gold earrings, antique beds, furniture, signed books by listed artists, tools, appliances, sterling silver and many more treasures.
