Everything But The House is excited to present an exceptional collection of art by the recently deceased artist Walter Stomps, Jr., a modern formalist who specialized in large-scale Abstract Expressionist and geometric Color Field paintings. Stomps received his BFA and MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago, during which he developed a method of applying large dabs of paint with industrial paper towels and paint soaked linen. Throughout his career, he also taught at the Middletown Fine Arts Center, the Dayton Art Institute, and Western Kentucky University for over four decades. Similar to other Modernists of the 20th century, Stomps began working in a more representational style, then progressed into gestural Abstract Expressionism before developing his mature monumental Color Field style. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Dayton Art Institute, the Owensboro Museum of Art, and the J.B. Speed Museum of Art.
