EBTH is proud to present the Model Airplane Collection of Herman Leffew, Korean War Veteran and aviation enthusiast. Herman was born the same year that Charles Lindbergh flew his solo flight across the Atlantic which predestined his passion for aviation. As a boy, he meticulously built balsa airplane models with his brother, launching a 75 year odyssey as a collector of all things aviation.
In his retirement, as part of Leading Edge Aircraft, a team that restored multiple historic aircraft, he recreated history with his restoration of an Autogiro that took 8.5 years to complete. It won the Reserve Grand Champion Antique at Oshkosh in 2009.
The history and elements of this collection are on full display below for those to immerse in one man’s life-long love of flight!
