EBTH is pleased to present an extraordinary sale featuring selected items from the estate of the late Drs. “Bud” Martin and Carol Macht. The Machts were truly ahead of their times, a “power couple” before the term was created, highly accomplished in their respective fields, Bud’s in internal medicine and Carol’s in art and archaeology, with both earning PhD’s from Johns Hopkins University. Carol’s doctoral dissertation on Wedgwood opened her up to the exciting world of art curation, when she was asked to curate the Lehman Collection at the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1957. Her extraordinary work on this show was parlayed into a position as the Curator of Decorative Arts at the Cincinnati Art Museum, a position she held until 1981. The Macht’s, along with their daughter Anni, traveled the world over, especially enamored with England and Italy, with close friendships developing with artists and museum curators. Two such friendships were with Hugh Wakefield of the Victoria and Albert in London and Sir John Wedgwood of the famed Wedgwood firm. Please take a moment to enjoy the elegant pieces the Machts enjoyed and collected.
