EVERYTHING BUT THE HOUSE (EBTH) is honored to partner with a private museum institution for an auction of historically significant art and cultural pieces from a family collection. In 1876, the son of a prominent and wealthy Midwestern family attended the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition and was bitten by the collecting bug. From then into the early 20th century, he collected globally including rare Asian art and antiquities. Upon his death, the collection remained in his family for a time before being given to a local museum in 1938. Today, the museum’s focus has shifted, and the collection is less relevant to its mission as a whole. After 80 years of storing the pieces, the museum is deaccessioning them. Proceeds will be used to enhance and preserve the museum’s mission-relevant collection.
