Item Details

Peter Robert Keil (German, b. 1942)
Untitled (abstracted face), 1965
Acrylic painting on paper mounted to separate paper backing
Signed and dated to the lower left

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miró. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
