An oil painting on canvas titled Bathers at the Beach by listed Danish artist Kaj Holst (1885-1962), painted circa 1925. An early 20th century, panoramic ocean scene showing a view of two young women paddling on the shore. It is signed to the lower right.

Holst first studied at the Copenhagen Art Institute under Viggo Johansen and, later, in Paris (1909-1910). With Johannes Oppenhauser, he was a founding member of the Scandinavian Modernist group, ‘The Thirteen’. He exhibited with success throughout the 1920s and was the frequent recipient of prizes, medals and juried awards. In the latter part of his career, Holst retired to the country and focused increasingly on abstraction. His work is held in the permanent collections of numerous museums.
