American born and self taught artist Donald Purdy is known for a portfolio of mid century abstract works that gradually evolves into representational, Impressionist inspired scenes by the 1980s. Purdy seldom used live models, but rather worked from memories and impressions of subjects. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum of Art, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Bridgeport Museum of Art. Purdy’s work has been shown at the Van Diemen-Lilienfeld Gallery, the Ruth Butler Galleries in New York, and the Bernheim-Jeune Gallery in Paris.
