This etching was printed by Raymond Haasen and published by Tériade, Paris, and it depicts an illustration of the titular Bible verse. It is signed in plate to the lower right as well as monogrammed in graphite to the lower right margin. The print is marked to the lower left margin as number 60 in an edition on 100, and has the plate number inscribed to the verso. It is presented behind a mat and glass in a gold tone frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Marc Chagall, born in 1887 in Russia, moved to Paris as a young artist. There, he became part of the famous École de Paris along with many of his famous Jewish contemporaries; including Chaim Soutine and Modigliani. Chagall’s body of work spans several decades, but he is most well-known for his expressive, symbolic imagery as a way of exploring religion.
