A serigraph stencil after Henri Matisse, Funeral of Pierrot, from the book, Jazz. This colorful stencil depicts a horse drawn enclosed carriage surrounded by foliate forms.

The book Jazz published in 1947, was comprised of a set of twenty color stencils accompanied by over seventy pages of Matisse’s calligraphic writing. The book represents a pivotal turning point in Matisse’s art career when he was transitioning from oil painting to the cut out collages that he is best known for. Jazz was published by Tériade in an edition of 250.
