Born in 1908, John Groth made a career as a artist by utilizing action-packed events that he had experienced first-hand and sketching his experiences. Groth used a style technique called “speed line,” in which he sketched his subjects using rough, imperfect lines and then accenting the negative space with watercolors. Groth was a member of the Society of American Etchers, American Newspaper Guild, Society of Illustrators, Associate Member of the National Academy of Design, and the American Water Color Society
