An antique oil painting on wood panel by listed Dutch Artist William Hendrik Eickelberg (1845 – 1920). This painting, rendered in painterly brushwork and a rich palette, features two figures walking along a snowy path through a wooded landscape, as the sun casts a warm glow across the horizon. This work is signed to the lower right and is housed in a gilt wood frame.

Eickelberg was best known for his landscape paintings, although he also painted the occasional townscape or beach scene. He studied under landscape painter Johan Diderik Cornelis Veltens (Netherlands; 1814 – 1894) and pursued his artistic studies at the Amsterdam Academy.

Condition

- small amount of loss to wood panel to lower right corner. Scattered areas of craquelure. Light accretion to painting surface.
