An late 18th century American School portrait oil painting. This painting depicts a naive portrait of a young girl wearing period clothing. The subject has petite hands, broad shoulders, hair rolled neatly into sausage curls, and a patient demeanor against a shadowy blueish-black backdrop. Attached to the verso is a handwritten card attributing the sitter as Priscilla Cartwright, grand daughter of General William Floyd (American, 1734 – 1821), a soldier and politician from New York and a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence.
