A late 19th-century oil painting on canvas attributed to listed Hudson River School artist William G. Boardman (New York/Rhode Island; 1815 – 1895). This luminous work features a majestic view of the Green Lake, located in Catskill Mountain, New York, portrayed with intricate brushstrokes and tenuous lighting. The work is initialed ‘W.G.B.’ to the lower right. To the verso, an informational label with artist’s name and titled is affixed. The composition is presented in a wood frame with a gilt finish.
William Boardman was born in Cazenovia, New York and is best known for his Hudson River School landscapes. He began his formal artistic training in Cleveland, Ohio in 1841. Boardman further pursued his artistic career incessantly working in multiple cities throughout the country including New Haven, Charlestown, Providence, and Rhode Island. During the last years of his life, he moved to Boston, establishing his distinctive signature painting style and content for which he became recognized. His most outstanding landscapes take place in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the New River and Kanawha valleys, West Virginia and ultimately, the Hudson River Valley. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the National Academy of Design, the Boston Athenaeum and the American Art Union.

- wear, finish loss, and discoloration throughout the frame; minor toning throughout the composition; under U.V light examination minor areas of inpainting were revealed throughout the composition; this canvas has been wax relined.
