Two abstract acrylic paintings on canvas by Cincinnati-based artist Nick Kraft (20th/21st century), both created in 2017. Both paintings feature irregular loose fields of vibrant colors, portrayed with gestural and aggressive brushstrokes in an Abstract Expressionist manner. Both paintings are signed and inscribed to the verso. They remain unframed.
Nick Kraft concerns himself with the act and process of art making, finding joy in intuitively applying paint and collaborating with others. He begins a work by moving around the edge of the picture plane adding forms, slowly working his way toward the center. Along the way, he invites guests in the studio or his life to contribute something to the process, adding something unique to the work. This communication between collaborators seems important in offering new directions and solutions in his studio practice.
