A pair of paintings by Rosalind Bush, both created in 2015. Red Man Dancing is an acrylic painting on mat board featuring an abstracted portrait of a man portrayed with loose gestural brushstrokes. Man with Yellow Eyes is a marker and watercolor painting on paper featuring an abstract bust portrait of a man. Both works are unsigned and remain unframed. To the versos are descriptive labels and handwritten labels providing information about the works, the artist, and Visionaries + Voices.
Rosalind Bush’s art making is steeped in classical antiquity. Finding inspirational imagery in various art books, she appropriates well-established iconography across the fine art landscape. Bush is primarily concerned with studying the figure, often referencing the works of the Great Masters or photo portraits from National Geographic. Although she is experienced with paper mache, markers, and other various media, the artist most recently works in acrylic or watercolor as she focuses on refining her new body of figurative paintings. Her distinctive blunt style is accomplished by rendering the eyes of her subjects as sharp and often pupilless, and defining her figures with dark outlines, which brings attention to the foreground.
