A 1993 oil landscape painting on canvas titled Confederate Moon by Grigory Stepanyants (Russian/American; 1937 – 2007). This work depicts the night sky with a white moon and clouds over a river landscape. It is signed to the bottom left and date ’93. Piece is presented in an ornate gold tone frame with brass plaque to the bottom and wire to the verso.

Grigory Stepanyants, born in Odessa (Soviet Union), trained at the Odessa Art Institute and the Surikov Moscow State Institute of the Arts. After graduating in 1970 as one of the top five students in the Soviet Union, he emigrated to the United States in 1976 and established a career as a professional portrait painter and landscape artist living in NYC, Hilton Head, SC, PA, Iowa, and TN.
