A pair of circa 1950s white lacquered chests with the iconic ‘X’ pulls, designed by Paul Frankl for Johnson Furniture. Each chest has the molded edge with inset drawers alternating from wider to more narrow, five in total. The drawers are signed to the interior Johnson Furniture.
Paul Frankl came to the United States in 1914, anxious to be a part of the optimism and freedom of expression at the time. His emblematic modern furnishings soon became noted which led him to Los Angeles in 1934 where gained notoriety among celebrities (Cary Grant, Fred Astaire) and his elegant aesthetics greatly influenced movie set design. Paul Frankl’s work is exhibited in several art institutions and is avidly collected worldwide.
