An assortment of five etchings with aquatint on paper board including the titles Old Bridge, Penn and The White Sail by listed artist Robert Whitmore (Ohio; 1890-1979), dated early 20th century. The pieces depict various landscapes featuring architectural and coastal scenes rendered with intricate detailing. The work titled Old Bridge, Penn is signed and dated ‘Robert Whitmore 1921’ to the lower margin. The compositions are marked with the artist’s estate stamp to the verso and presented unframed.

Robert H. Whitmore was a painter, printmaker and draughtsman born in Dayton, Ohio on February 22, 1890. Whitmore studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cincinnati Art Academy, deriving his impressionistic style from the artistic movement of the time. Whitmore preferred to work directly from nature, believing that it produced an honest interpretation of the world around us. In the 1920s, Whitmore began teaching at the Dayton Art Institute before settling into a position at Antioch College for thirty years.

- wear and minor irregularity throughout the edges of paper board; stains, toning and minor dents visible throughout the margins.
