An oil painting on canvas titled The Mapmaker by listed American artist Kenneth Wyatt (b. 1930), created in 1981. Portrayed with careful delineaitons, this work features a group of men with their horses in a rocky western landscape, watching as one man draws a route in the dirt. The work is signed and dated to the lower right; it is also titled and inscribed with the artist’s name to the canvas verso. The painting is presented in a carved brown wood frame with a metal plate affixed to the lower center.
Kenneth Wyatt is based in Texas and is known for his western and Christian-themed artwork. He works in a variety of media including oil, watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, bronze, pewter, and stone. He is the founder and first president of Texas Cowboy Artist Association, and a recipient of numerous awards. Among his notable commissions are his monumental portrait of Mickey Mantle commissioned by the Oklahoma State Capitol Building and his portrait of the Texas Supreme Justice Jack Hightower.
Condition
- small faint brown stains present to central and upper left area of sky; some rubbing marks along edges of painting; some wear to frame includes small chips, stains, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout; frame is slightly separating at corners.
