1858 English-Made Tower Enfield Musket Model 1853
Item Details
An 1858 ‘Enfield’ English-made musket rifle, model 1853 by Tower. It features flip-up rear sights and includes its original metal ramrod. The barrel is 40’ long and is held to the walnut stock by three barrel bands. It is marked near the action with engraved markings: the date 1858, the manufacturer’s name “TOWER” and a crown above the letters “VR” for “Victoria Regina”, indicating the rifle was crown property (likely military issue) during the reign of Queen Victoria. There are similar models found on display at the Museum of the Confederacy and NRA Museum.
