An original oil painting on canvas. The painted depicts Dean Smith (1931-2015), the legendary basketball coach for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The painting was commissioned in 1993 for the cover of Charlotte Magazine. Smith served as the coach of UNC-Chapel Hill from 1961 to 1997. While there, he led UNC to eleven Final Four appearances and two national titles (1982, 1993). Smith is credited with 879 NCAA Division I wins and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983. The painting is unsigned.
