An untitled marker and watercolor painting on paper by Cincinnati-based artist Kevin Stricklin (20th/21st century), created in 2018. This work features an abstract landscape populated with cars, houses, and brick buildings; the composition is separated into horizontal registers, portrayed with simple black delineations and various vibrant colors. Signed, dated, and inscribed to the verso, the work is not mounted and remains unframed.

Ever since he began creating art in high school, Kevin Stricklin’s work has demanded an audience. From clay, to watercolor, to pencil and ink, his work is similarly familiar and new. His interior domestic scenes have their walls splayed into cubist formations, his animals show just a flash of human, and his cars are either from an unrealized past or soon to be future. Subjects are what he knows, and which can exhibit a study of a living room or depictions of his old family pets. Stricklin works studiously, checking in at his steps along the way to review his progress. His illustrations have given way to interests in clay, sculpture and film, all the while continuing to develop his unique style and techniques.
