Civil War Era 1st Vermont Cavalry Stirrup Iron and Other Stirrup Irons and Spurs

A Civil War era 1st Vermont Cavalry cast brass stirrup iron produced by E.T. Fairbanks & Company; a pair of vintage western style August Buermann copper tone rowel spurs marked ‘A.B. U.S.’ to the interior of the heel; a late nineteenth century ladies sidesaddle stirrup iron featuring a heart-shaped footbed; a petite ladies or childs size wrought iron stirrup; a rowel spur with leather spur strap; a long shank spur with knob end; and two antique brass pear-shaped stirrup irons.
The 1st Vermont Cavalry was a volunteer regiment in the Union Army which served in the Cavalry Corps, Army of the Potomac. The stirrup was made specifically for this regiment by businessman and former governor of Vermont E.T. Fairbanks by his company located in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The stirrup features an embossed maker’s mark to the footbed and is additionally marked ‘G.T.B.’ in an oval to the footbed.
