A life-size statue of Maschinenmensch from Metropolis, named Maria in the film, after sculptor Walter Schulze-Mittendorff (German, 1893 – 1976). The piece is based on the 1927 German Expressionist science-fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang. The gold tone plastic figure is the depiction of one of the first robots to appear in a movie. The piece is supported by a metal base, etched ‘Metropolis Maschinenmensch by Walter Schulze-Mittendorff’. Schulze-Mittendorff worked closely with the film, producing sculptures on a contract basis.

- a few slight scratches; a couple of nicks to the right leg.
