Late 19th Century Ebonized Triple Fusee Bracket Clock
Item Details
An antique, late 19th century English ebonized triple fusee bracket clock. The clock has an ebonized, arched case with a brass urn finial at the apex and at each of the four corners of the case, supported by reeded brass columns. The hinged door to the face is framed in an acanthus embossed brass. The face has three dials: one for ‘chime’ or ‘Silent’ mode; one for the eight bell Cambridge chimes and the face. The face has a silver-toned chapter ring with Roman numerals over a brass back, with decorative openwork hands and two key arbors. The face is flanked in four corners by applied brass foliate embossed decoration. The sides of the case feature a reticulated brass screen over a red painted, arched cut out under a hinged brass handle, repeated on the door to the works on the back, with a brass key escutcheon. The works are the chiming bells and triple fusee movement, and are unmarked but for an etched foliate pattern. The clock rests on four raised, brass bracket feet, accompanied by a wall mount ebonized wood bracket shelf having applied, foliate embossed brass accents. . A brass Indian key and a brass West German winding key are included, with a brass pendulum having a sun and ray etched pattern, with a small weight. A letter from Christie’s accompanies the clock verifying age. Per the consignor, the clock is attributed to William Henry Power.
